Anal sex has been commonly used as a contraceptive across cultures and throughout history, because it was the most reliable way to have sex without getting pregnant. The fact that it’s just as pleasurable for most, and more pleasurable for many, than vaginal sex was no doubt an added bonus.

The Moche culture of modern-day Peru is a famous example—their artwork almost exclusively depicts anal sex with little to no examples of vaginal.
